The #1 thing that will determine whether or not you convert clients is your copy. So, how can you ensure that your copy is written so that it propels readers to take action? Let’s get into six ways you can write website copy optimized for conversions. Whether you want someone to sign up for your course or book a consultation, adjusting your copy in these ways will inspire your readers to learn more about your services.
#1. Be specific to a narrow target audience
Don’t be afraid to speak directly to your dream clients and nobody else. It may sound scary & limiting to narrow down your target audience, but think of it this way – if someone is your dream client, and they know exactly what they’re looking for, they’re going to search on Google for that exact service. The more your copy matches what they’re searching for, the more often those dream clients will find you. This will actually lead to more conversions in the end.
So, don’t be afraid to clarify who your services are designed for! For instance, you may not just be a website designer for business websites, you may be a website designer for female founders. Once you get specific, you can adjust all of the wording on your site to cater to this dream client – whether it’s your blog articles, packages, or add-ons.
2. Write how your dream client talks
Familiarize yourself with their verbiage so that they feel right at home while browsing your site. You can do this by hanging out in the places they hang out in online – stalk them in Reddit groups and read the reviews they left on top competitors’ Yelp sites. Then, address them directly in a way that you know they’d resonate with.
3. Get those who are just browsing into your pipeline
Not everyone is landing on your site planning to take a deep dive, so be sure to hook in those just passing through immediately. There are a few ways you can do this:
- Offer a freebie to get their email
- Invite them to sign up for your newsletter
- Invite them to read your blog
- Offer free consultations
- Give them secondary ways to engage with you
4. Show them you understand their problem
Describe the exact problem they’re experiencing in specific detail so that they know you’re the expert on it. This can be done by asking rhetorical questions like, “Have you ever felt this way?” or telling a story on your About page that proves you’ve been in their shoes before. It can also be done on the Services section of your site by showing how your services will take your clients from point A (their current problem) to point B (the solution you provide).
5. Give them a glimpse into the benefits of your services
The benefits of your services should continually be emphasized throughout your site. This can be done by writing an intriguing headline that sparks curiosity or a call to action that prompts them to finally experience the #1 benefit you provide.
6. Emphasize urgency
60% of surveyed buyers say they make a purchase within 24 hours if they fear missing out on something. Make it seem urgent that they take action on your site! You can do this by stating if there are limited spots left, only a few hours left of a sale, or just by putting words like “now” and “today” in your calls to action.
